Take-Two CEO Expresses Strong Assurance That Grand Theft Auto 6 Will Not Face Further Delays: 'My Confidence Level is Extremely High'
Take-Two's Strauss Zelnick expresses high confidence in the new release date for GTA 6, amidst immense anticipation and the pressures of expectations.
It’s a turbulent time for fans eagerly awaiting the next installment of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, as Take-Two Interactive recently postponed the release of GTA 6 to May 26, 2026. Expectations are soaring given the franchise’s history of excellence and the rarity of new releases.
In an interview with CNBC, CEO Strauss Zelnick conveyed confidence about the new launch date. “My level of conviction is very, very high,” he stated. Despite ongoing projects at Rockstar, he emphasized that GTA 6 remains the company’s primary focus.
He advised against overselling expectations; however, he acknowledges the challenges of tempering anticipation given the successful debut of the game’s trailers, which garnered millions of views shortly after release. The first trailer amassed 93 million views, making it the most-watched non-music video on YouTube, while the second trailer brought in over 475 million views in just 24 hours.
Zelnick further highlighted the team’s dedication to create extraordinary experiences that surpass anticipation. GTA 6 has a specified release date, a departure from previous vague timelines, adding to the credibility of his optimism. Still, he admitted that nothing is guaranteed in the gaming industry, although his confidence appears well-founded.
For those waiting for a PC release, Take-Two confirmed that the current plan only includes consoles, specifically PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with no word yet on other platforms.
