Samsung Unveils Micro RGB Technology: A New Kind of LCD Panel with Enhanced Dimming

Samsung has launched its Micro RGB technology, a new approach to LCD panels that improves local dimming by using individually controlled RGB backlights.

Samsung has introduced a new technology called Micro RGB with its first model—a massive 115-inch LCD panel. Despite the name, this is still an LCD panel with a backlight, not an OLED or microLED. The Micro RGB setup uses RGB LEDs in the backlight instead of white LEDs, allowing for individual control over each backlight zone, which should enhance color accuracy.

Currently, Samsung has yet to disclose the exact number of lighting zones this new panel has, but it’s said to be roughly three times that of typical mini-LED displays. While this sounds promising, the actual pixel control across such zones could lead to performance compromises, especially with the anticipated high resolution of the panel.

In theory, this technology could deliver dazzling colors and better contrast, but it might not reach the precision of OLED or microLED alternatives. Time will reveal if this advancement proves to be a game-changer for PC monitors.
