Survios Developer Discusses the Distinct Difficulty of Alien: Rogue Incursion
Mark Acero from Survios shares insights on the unique difficulty system of the VR game Alien: Rogue Incursion.
Survios combat designer Mark Acero emphasizes the unique difficulty system of Alien: Rogue Incursion as one of his proudest achievements. In a recent internal interview, he elaborated on numerous aspects of the game, which is a first-person VR horror experience launched for devices like Meta Quest 3, PlayStation VR2, and Steam VR on December 19.
Acero stated, “One of the game’s pillars is ‘you must respect the Xenomorphs’.” This reflects the idea that players need to genuinely fear these creatures for the game to truly capture the essence of the Alien universe. Their behavior in-game must be lethal and unpredictable, which emphasizes the tactical combat that exists in Alien: Rogue Incursion.
The gameplay incorporates several elements such as 360-degree combat and the ability for Xenomorphs to ambush players, creating an atmosphere of constant danger. Survios has aimed to make players feel as though they are encountering the same creatures as depicted in the films and other media, providing a sense of realism and terror.
Acero further explained that aspects of design for VR games diverge considerably from traditional PC or console games, noting that actions like reloading weapons are made more immersive by requiring players to physically perform the tasks necessary in reality, enhancing the player’s engagement within the Alien universe.
