California Resident Files Lawsuit Against Microsoft Over Windows 10 Discontinuation

A man from San Diego is suing Microsoft, demanding continued support for Windows 10 beyond its October discontinuation.

A resident of San Diego, Lawrence Klein, is bringing a lawsuit against Microsoft in an effort to preserve Windows 10. The suit arises amid concerns regarding Microsoft’s plans to discontinue support for the operating system this October.

Klein’s legal action argues that Microsoft’s decision to end support is pushing users toward new devices and is part of a strategy to monopolize the generative AI market. He claims that Windows 10 support should remain free until its user base falls below 10% of all Windows users.

The complaint highlights significant risks associated with discontinuing Windows 10 support, stating:

“With only three months until support ends for Windows 10, many millions of users may not opt to purchase new devices or pay for extended support, putting them, especially businesses that handle sensitive data, at increased risk of cyberattacks.”

Klein further states that Microsoft’s drive for Windows 11 adoption feels more like a forced transition rather than a voluntary upgrade, suggesting that users who prefer the older operating system should be able to maintain it legally and securely.

The lawsuit seeks a court order to halt what he describes as misleading advertising from Microsoft about Windows 10’s discontinuation and to ensure that users know their options regarding continued support.

Klein is also requesting continued updates for Windows 10 at no additional cost until the user base decreases significantly.
