Tencent Adapts 'Light of Motiram' Following Sony's Legal Challenges
Amid ongoing legal disputes with Sony, Tencent modifies its game 'Light of Motiram' to lessen similarities to the 'Horizon' series.
The legal battle between Sony and Tencent regarding a game strikingly similar to the Horizon series has led to significant changes in Light of Motiram. Following Sony’s claims that the game mirrored its franchise, many references linking it to Horizon have been stripped from its Steam page. Tencent’s subsidiary, Polaris Quest, has also updated visuals and descriptions to dilute these similarities. The game, which features a red-haired protagonist reminiscent of Horizon’s Aloy, now presents players with a broader narrative focus of survival against formidable bosses in an unforgiving environment. The recently unveiled images no longer prominently feature the lookalike character but instead introduce new mascots to remove the contentious elements. With a tentative release expected in Q4 2027, the ongoing legal scrutiny may continue to shape its development.
“Light of Motiram’s description previously included terms like ‘mechanimals’ and ‘colossal machines’ reminiscent of the Horizon series, but changes reflect a more generalized concept of the game.”
This incident underlines a broader trend in the gaming industry where major developers are increasingly protective of their intellectual properties and trademarks.
