William “RUSH” Wierzba has decided to retire from competitive gaming, marking the end of a notable career spanning 13 years. He achieved significant milestones, including winning North America’s sole Major championship at the ELEAGUE Major Boston 2018.
The American rifler first made a name for himself in 2014 with Elevate and gained attention in 2016 while playing for OpTic, where he qualified for his first Major and earned an MVP medal by defeating Astralis in the ELEAGUE Season 2 finals.
RUSH later joined Cloud9 in August 2017, solidifying his most successful period in professional gaming, during which he captured titles such as DreamHack Open Denver and iBUYPOWER Masters 2017, culminating in the victory at ELEAGUE Major Boston 2018 against FaZe. However, his career declined over the years, with only a single online title win during a two-year run with Complexity.
In announcing his retirement, the 31-year-old reflected on his struggles to maintain passion for playing, which he temporarily reignited after the release of Counter-Strike 2. He expressed his disinterest in competing if he could not deliver at his best.
“I told myself years ago that I would stop competing if one of two things happened: My individual skill degraded significantly, or I simply stopped enjoying playing professionally.” - William Wierzba
RUSH conveyed a strong inclination towards coaching, saying, “I’m very interested in the prospect of coaching in CS2, and I believe I would excel in that role. I’d also be open to working an event as talent.”
