Former Counter-Strike Pro Discusses Call of Duty's Simplicity in Gameplay

Fredrik "roeJ" Jorgensen shares insights on the accessibility of Call of Duty compared to other shooters.

Call of Duty games are “pretty easy” to get into, according to retired Counter-Strike pro Fredrik “roeJ” Røj Jorgensen. The eSports veteran shared his thoughts on Call of Duty during a recent interview, where he compared it to other competitive shooters like Counter-Strike, Apex Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, and Overwatch.

Jorgensen, who was born in 1993, enjoyed a successful career as a Counter-Strike professional, playing for several teams, including Fnatic and Copenhagen Flames. Specializing as a rifler, he competed from 2017 until his retirement in 2025, with career earnings exceeding $325,000.

Classic Call of Duty Games Are Among the Easiest Shooters to Play

In a recent interview ahead of the Thunderpick World Championship 2025, Jorgensen provided insights into how modern PvP shooters compare regarding difficulty. While he didn’t rank the games specifically, he discussed aspects like mechanical complexity and learning curves. Jorgensen identified classic Call of Duty titles like Modern Warfare 2 as being highly accessible. He commented on the game’s fundamental design, emphasizing that while achieving kills requires skill, it’s “pretty easy” to understand.

Gameplay Comparisons and Accessibility

Jorgensen described Call of Duty’s Team Deathmatch mode as exemplifying this accessibility: “You basically have to kill, respawn, and repeat.” He believes that while Call of Duty is simpler than Counter-Strike, both games are approachable for newcomers. Jorgensen noted that though Counter-Strike has a high skill ceiling, it has a straightforward learning curve, making it easy for beginners to start playing.

Modern Competitive Shooter Insights

When comparing current popular shooters, he referred to Valorant as “a bit more kid-friendly” than Counter-Strike, although it presents more mechanical complexity, resulting in a steeper learning curve. Jorgensen also examined Overwatch, stating it’s “definitely more complicated” than Counter-Strike, while referencing the increased difficulty found in modern battle royale games like Fortnite, which he considers among the toughest due to their unique mechanics.
