OpenAI Advises Against Emotional Queries on ChatGPT

OpenAI has recommended that ChatGPT should not provide direct answers to emotional questions, aiming to create healthier user interactions.

In a recent update, OpenAI has indicated that ChatGPT should not provide direct answers to personal questions such as ‘Should I break up with my boyfriend?’. Instead, it offers to help users think through their decisions by asking questions and considering both advantages and disadvantages.

This initiative aims to ensure that users do not excessively rely on AI for emotional guidance. OpenAI recognizes a growing dependence on ChatGPT for such support among younger individuals, which has prompted them to introduce these new behavioral guidelines.

With these changes, OpenAI is working to reinforce that while ChatGPT can serve as a resource for reflection, it is not a substitute for human judgment or emotional support.
