A player must now play five of the past ten matches to appear on an active roster for a team on the VRS.
Valve has introduced two vital updates to its VRS model, addressing a major concern regarding event weight for tournaments with multiple stages and establishing a new minimum participation requirement for a player to be listed on an active roster for a team on the VRS.
“Event stages that can be connected to later event stages (e.g., qualifiers or group stages) now augment their prize pool with a fraction of the final stage’s prize pool,”
- Update statement.
This adjustment tackles an issue prevalent in many multi-stage events, including IEM Cologne, IEM Katowice, and the Majors, where earlier tournament stages had less impact on Bounty Collected and Bounty Offered due to their low prize pools or being primarily qualifiers for subsequent stages.
The second update enforces that a player must now participate in five of the last ten matches to retain their status on an active roster. This change ensures that a player who only briefly fills in for a team cannot replace someone on the main roster.
FaZe faced a notable incident under this new rule in June, as their ranking update resulted in a roster that included both Felipe “skullz” Medeiros and Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev, with the former playing only three matches during IEM Dallas.
