Silent Hill F’s director, Al Yang, and producer Motoi Okamoto believe that younger gamers prefer action. In an attempt to refresh the franchise, the new installment will focus less on the atmospheric wandering typical of the series and more on direct confrontations.

“Inserting more entertaining and thrilling action into Silent Hill F was an idea I had ever since the early phases of the development,” says Okamoto in an interview.

Translation: “I have wanted to add more exciting action to Silent Hill F since the beginning of development.”

The choice of NeoBards Entertainment as developers was influenced by their expertise in action game design. While traditional Silent Hill entries thrived on psychological terror and intricate storytelling, the new vision aims to mix those elements with more dynamic gameplay.

Conversely, Yang mentioned the shift in focus is also a response to avoid creating clones of earlier series entries.

Reflections on Change

As the gaming landscape shifts, both Yang and Okamoto recognize the need to adapt while trying to keep the series’ essence alive.

The change may be challenging, especially given the legacy of Silent Hill 2. However, they assert there’s a unique opportunity to blend richer combat sequences that enhance the horror experience rather than diminish it.

Game mechanics that incorporate action can showcase the intricate monster designs while providing engaging combat that resonates with both returning fans and newcomers alike.
