FromSoftware previously set strict player caps for Elden Ring Nightreign, limiting gameplay to single-player or trio modes. However, the demand for more flexible multiplayer options led to the implementation of duo play after noticing player frustrations. Now, with the new update (version 1.02), players can team up in groups of six, albeit with caution.
The creator of the mod, Yui, shared on their Patreon:
“Nightreign is a relatively new release and is still being maintained by FromSoftware. The current state of the seamless co-op mod is that it is now feature-complete. Originally, this mod was designed to just bridge the gap between the game’s launch and the developers adding official 2-player support. Now that this has been done, the only real use this mod has over the vanilla game is mod support and increasing player cap.”
Although the update is celebrated, Yui warns that allowing more than five players could cause gameplay imbalances and potentially introduce bugs:
“…beyond six players seems overkill and even with a very high scaling curve for enemies, the game just becomes comically easy.”
Players can customize enemy health scaling options to maintain gameplay difficulty, ensuring that engaging with multiple companions doesn’t trivialize the challenge.
