AMD CPUs Reach All-Time Popularity According to Latest Steam Survey
AMD has surged ahead in the CPU market, nearing parity with Intel for the first time in years.
AMD is inching closer to dethroning Intel in the realm of PC gaming processors. According to the July Steam Hardware Survey, the figures show that AMD has gained significant ground. While Intel experienced a drop of 0.75% in market share, AMD climbed up to 40.39%, marking its highest representation in the survey’s 17-year history. Intel now holds 59.5% of the market, highlighting a growing trend that suggests AMD may soon lead the pack.
This continuous rise began back in May 2021 when AMD first surpassed a 30% share and has since been bolstered by the success of the Ryzen architecture introduced in 2017. Notably, it took AMD until March 2018 to secure its first 10% share of users surveyed.
Reflecting on the early days of the Steam Hardware Survey from November 2008, AMD faced a stark contrast with just 37.95% market share against Intel’s 62.04%. However, as more gamers recognize the price-to-performance advantage that AMD offers, especially with high-end models, the future looks promising for AMD.
This data serves as a reminder that market dominance can shift quickly, and NVIDIA, the leading GPU manufacturer, may want to take note of this trend.
