EA Announces Battlefield 6 Will Have a Modular Installation Size

Battlefield 6's file size can be as low as 55GB, allowing players to choose which game components to install.

If you’ve been monitoring the pre-purchase page for Battlefield 6 on Steam, you might have spotted that the required file sizes are 55GB for the minimum and 80GB for the recommended specs. This discrepancy sparked our curiosity, so we contacted EA for clarification.

“Yes, you will be able to pick and choose which components of the game you install,” we were informed by an EA representative. “There will be a shared base package, and then you can separately choose to install the main components (i.e. singleplayer, multiplayer etc.).”

This suggests that the 55GB storage requirement likely pertains to the base package, while 80GB includes the base and all additional components. Thus, if storage space is limited, players can skip components they don’t intend to play.

Notably, even the maximum size of 80GB is reasonable when compared to other AAA games, many of which demand over 100GB. Titles like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Jedi: Survivor require significantly more space than Battlefield 6.

If you plan to purchase Battlefield 6 solely for the singleplayer mode, you may miss out on what is arguably the core experience. However, this modularity will prove beneficial for players looking to clear space for the multiplayer experience after completing the campaign.

Battlefield 6 is currently available for pre-purchase on Steam at $69 (or $99 for the Phantom Edition) and is set to launch on October 10. In addition, there will be two open beta weekends this month on August 9-10 and 14-17.
