It’s challenging to gauge a game’s true focus based on early previews. Often, studios highlight the combat aspects of immersive simulations rather than the exploration or puzzle-solving elements. This pattern appears applicable to survival horror as well. Audience engagement is usually better when exciting combat sequences are showcased over more subtle atmospheric elements.
Therefore, I may not be far off in noting that the recent previews for Silent Hill F seem to place excessive emphasis on combat. While previous titles, including the Silent Hill 2 remake, incorporated significant combat without losing its essence, Silent Hill F appears to have a clunkier feel.
Previews indicate a reliance on stamina management and dodging mechanics, with perfect dodges offering stamina recovery. Various attack systems are at play, which feels somewhat overwhelming compared to traditional gameplay friction. With no firearms available in this edition, melee combat must pick up the slack.
Despite the critique, the visuals and setting look promising, featuring haunting environments and unique enemy designs. The game’s launch is slated for September 25, and anticipation remains high.
