Dungeons and Dragons is set to enhance fan experiences by offering full access to its Maps virtual tabletop via D&D Beyond without any subscription fees starting September 16. While additional customization options through subscriptions will still be available, all fans will now have the opportunity to utilize this official VTT completely free of charge.
Maps is an innovative virtual tabletop application by Wizards of the Coast that integrates seamlessly with D&D Beyond. At present, this service allows users holding a Master Tier subscription to manage games using maps, monsters, and other assets they already own on the platform. This enables remote Dungeons and Dragons sessions across any device with internet access.
Free Access to Maps Beginning September 16
Recently, Dungeons and Dragons confirmed through a significant announcement made by franchise head Dan Ayoub that Maps will be available to all fans at no cost. To access the VTT, a D&D Beyond account will still be required; however, players will not need a subscription to run games using their available modules and adventures.

This change does come with some caveats. Advanced features will still be restricted to Master Tier subscribers, who will be able to upload third-party maps and tokens, alongside other impressive features enhancing their virtual gaming sessions.
Additionally, the blog post included updates on community initiatives, such as a rotating advisory group consisting of creators, publishers, educators, and fans to help shape the future of tools and content. Moreover, there will be a creator spotlight program aimed at highlighting the works of fans and third-party developers on official platforms.
New titles are also on the horizon, with Dungeons and Dragons showcasing its next books, Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerun and Adventures in Faerun, with release dates set for November 11.
