During the Battlefield 6 multiplayer reveal showcase held yesterday, DICE producer Jeremy Chubb stated that the studio aims to recapture the ‘atmosphere and grit’ that made earlier titles, like Battlefield 3 and 4, so iconic. However, they aim to elevate that aesthetic to a new height, which has been measured through an amusing metric: helicopter explosions.
I observed this during the 23-minute presentation. A notable shift occurred in tone during this reveal, steering away from DICE’s traditionally muted military representation. Instead, they now seem to convey the ferocity of virtual warfare by showcasing an explosion-prone environment, specifically targeting helicopters at every opportunity.
Regarding the statistics; I counted 34 helicopters being destroyed in total, averaging roughly 1.476 explosions per minute throughout the presentation. This metric is not just impressive; it feels deliberately over-the-top to the point of absurdity.
As players and fans analyze these dynamics following the showcase and the public reception, one might wonder—who at EA decided that every helicopter must perish? When will the carnage cease?
