Darksiders 4 Officially Confirmed as Sequel
The next installment in the Darksiders franchise has been officially announced, promising gameplay with all four Horsemen as playable characters.
It’s official: Darksiders 4 is on its way and is set to be a true sequel to the original game, featuring all four Horsemen as playable characters. Although details are still limited, Darksiders 4 will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
On August 2, 2024, THQ Nordic confirmed that a new Darksiders game was in development. However, the teaser trailer was vague about whether it would be a sequel, parallel game like Darksiders 2 or 3, a prequel like Darksiders Genesis, or a remake of the original.
Fast forward almost a year later, and THQ Nordic has officially confirmed that Darksiders is receiving an actual sequel. During the THQ Nordic showcase, a new teaser was unveiled, confirming the game’s arrival on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The teaser features quotes from the end of Darksiders, with Uriel asking War if he will fight his battle alone, to which he replies that he won’t, as the other three Horsemen—Death, Fury, and Strife—join him.
Darksiders 4 Is a Proper Sequel to the Original Game
While the trailer offers minimal insight into the gameplay, more info is available on its Steam page. The title will continue from where the first Darksiders left off, confirming it as a true sequel. This third-person action-adventure game is expected to feature puzzles, fast-paced action, melee combat, and supernatural abilities. Notably, players will be able to control all four Horsemen and their unique weaponry and fighting styles. It is also confirmed to have online co-op, raising the possibility of multiple players controlling different Horsemen simultaneously.
It has been 15 years since the original Darksiders was released. Since then, three other Darksiders games have been published, none of which were direct sequels. Darksiders 2 and 3 follow Death and Fury during the same time frame as the first game, while Darksiders Genesis serves as a prequel. Fans have long been eager to discover what happens next in the series, making the upcoming release all the more exciting.
However, players might have to wait a little longer, as THQ Nordic has not provided any release dates or specifics on when Darksiders 4 will launch, with the absence of gameplay footage suggesting it may still be a while off. Regardless, the anticipation surrounding its arrival is certainly thrilling.
