D&D Aims to Regain Trust with Free Software and Support for Creators
Dungeons & Dragons announces initiatives to bolster community trust by making Beyond's mapping software free and updating its System Reference Document.
In an effort to regain player trust, Dungeons & Dragons, a well-known tabletop RPG, has made several important announcements. The game’s new head, Dan Ayoub, detailed plans to offer free access to its mapping software, part of a push to better support creators in the gaming community. He emphasized that Wizards of the Coast would update the Systems Reference Document (SRD) regularly, ensuring it remains useful and accessible to third-party creators.
“This ensures the SRD will remain up to date with the latest standards and mechanics for creators to use in their works.”
Translation: This will allow creators to utilize current standards in their game materials.
Additionally, the company has introduced a rotating advisory group composed of creators and educators to ensure that ideas from the community are incorporated moving forward. This initiative comes at a time when D&D is attempting to mend relationships following criticism and staff layoffs. Overall, these moves are seen as a step in the right direction for the franchise’s future.
