Some Battlefield 6 enthusiasts are speculating that the upcoming shooter may adopt a feature reminiscent of Call of Duty’s controversial BlackCell Battle Pass. Along with the multiplayer unveiling of Battlefield 6 yesterday, EA introduced a new Phantom Edition that includes a BF Pro Token. According to the pre-order details, this token offers players a Battle Pass, 25 Tier Skips, exclusive content, and more.
The global multiplayer reveal for Battlefield 6 also featured various renowned content creators engaging with the game for over four hours, showcasing the eagerly anticipated Battle Royale mode. Although very limited details were shared, a brief teaser hinted at soldiers, tanks, and vehicles trying to escape from a rapidly approaching wall of flames. EA announced that this mode would be “coming soon” to Battlefield Labs, enabling fans to experience this highly awaited rival to Warzone.
The Phantom Edition comes with a variety of skin bundles and cosmetic items, but the standout feature seems to be the BF Pro Token, which allows players to access the Battlefield 6 Battle Pass, 25 Tier Skips, and exclusive content. While it may appear as a premium iteration of the Battle Pass, many suspect it might mirror Call of Duty’s divisive BlackCell Battle Pass.
For context, the BlackCell Battle Pass was introduced in 2023 with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Season 3. The feature faced significant backlash for being purchasable solely with real money at a price of $29.99, excluding COD Points. It included numerous exclusive cosmetic items, raising concerns among fans about the escalating microtransaction model in a game already priced at $70.
If Battlefield 6 adopts this path concerning its Battle Pass, it wouldn’t surprise many, as other titles in the first-person shooter genre have already followed suit with similar models.
