Nvidia to End Support for GTX 10, 9, and 7-Series Graphics Cards

Nvidia confirms the termination of driver support for older graphics cards but offers an extended support window for RTX users.

Nvidia has officially announced that it will cease driver support for its older Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta graphics architectures starting October 2025. This marks the end of an era for GTX 10, 9, and 7 series graphics cards. In a silver lining for RTX owners, Nvidia has stated they will continue to receive Game Ready Drivers until October 2026.

Key Points:

  • After October 2025, GTX users will transition to quarterly security updates until October 2028.
  • Nvidia claims this support period significantly exceeds industry standards, with support lifetimes reaching up to 11 years.

Nvidia’s Statement:

“NVIDIA will announce that after a final Game Ready Driver (GRD) release in October 2025, GeForce GPUs based on Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta architectures will transition to receiving quarterly security updates for the next three years (through October 2028).”

This change signifies a shift away from continual enhancements for aging hardware, although significantly long-term support remains at the forefront compared to competitors.

For RTX GPUs, Nvidia will maintain Game Ready Driver support up until Windows 10’s end-of-life, ensuring users still have access to optimizations for newer games and applications even after Microsoft’s deadline.
