Marvel Rivals Implements Voice Chat Monitoring for a Better Gaming Experience
NetEase enhances Marvel Rivals by introducing moderation for in-game voice chat to create a more positive environment.
NetEase has begun introducing moderation features for in-game voice chat in Marvel Rivals, aiming to improve the gaming experience for all players. The system will automatically screen voice communications and review flagged language with human oversight to tackle toxic behavior.
“This means we’ll catch more toxic behaviour,” Guangyun Chen (Guangguang) explains, “and players using inappropriate language will be penalised—making the game a better place for everyone.”
In addition to this feature, a customisable mute list for text chat is on the way to provide players with more control. The implementation of this system started on July 24, with further updates expected in season 3.5 of the game.
NetEase’s approach is not unique, as many games have adopted similar chat moderation strategies, reflecting an industry-wide move towards creating safer and more welcoming online environments. This includes AI-driven monitoring, employed by other major titles as well.
For players concerned about privacy, it’s worth noting that this kind of monitoring is common in online gaming, much like how companies can review player messages directly.
