The Esports Hotel in China: Guests Walk Away with High-End Hardware

An esports hotel in China becomes the site of a bizarre theft where guests take gaming processors and graphics cards instead of toiletries.

Recently, a theft took place at an esports hotel in China where young guests stole high-performance Ryzen 9 9800X3D processors and RTX 5070 graphics cards from gaming PCs.

What Happened?

Guests were caught on video dismantling gaming PCs, pilfering components while leaving RAM sticks and other parts untouched. The hotel owner reported the incident to the police.

“Oh my god, the guys who checked in a few days ago just left. I messaged them on WeChat asking if they’d broken anything, only to find they’d blocked me. Right then, I knew something was wrong.” – Translation from the hotel owner’s commentary.

Despite being a relatively new concept outside of China, esports hotels are gaining popularity, allowing gamers to enjoy extensive gaming sessions on top-of-the-line hardware. Unfortunately, this incident highlights the potential risks hotel operators face in securing their equipment.

With the escalating cost of graphics hardware, losing such valuable components can significantly impact a business financially.
