Silent Hill f Almost Set in Japan's Real 'Silent Hill'

The next installment in the Silent Hill franchise, Silent Hill f, was nearly set in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, known as the real-life 'Silent Hill'.

The highly anticipated survival horror game Silent Hill f was almost set in the actual Silent Hill of Japan, known as Shizuoka Prefecture (静岡県), whose name translates to ‘Quiet Hill’. Despite the allure of this setting, the developers opted for a different approach due to visibility issues with Mount Fuji, which is prominent in Shizuoka.

Instead, Silent Hill f takes inspiration from Kanayama in Gifu Prefecture, where the fictional town Ebisugaoka serves as the backdrop for the game. In it, players follow high schooler Hinako Shimizu as she navigates through fog-laden streets, battles terrifying creatures, and grapples with her inner demons.

Developer NeoBards has preserved elements from previous games, hoping to maintain continuity within the franchise and incorporating music from series composer Akira Yamaoka, ensuring fans receive the signature eerie atmosphere. With its release on September 25, 2025, excitement continues to build among faithful followers of the series.
