Is Netgear's Affordable Wi-Fi 7 Mesh System Here to Save Us?

Netgear's Orbi 370 offers a budget-friendly Wi-Fi 7 mesh system that aims to eliminate weak connection spots in your home.

Is Netgear’s Affordable Wi-Fi 7 Mesh System Here to Save Us?

Rejoice, all those tired of losing internet connectivity in certain parts of their homes!

Mesh network systems, though relatively new to the consumer market, function by utilizing a node-based infrastructure to extend wireless signals throughout your home. Unlike traditional wireless boosters that often fall short, these new systems promise to provide consistent coverage.

That said, the higher price point of mesh systems can be a deterrent. However, Netgear has launched a new Wi-Fi 7 mesh system that disrupts the norm by pricing at nearly half of what its previous options offered. The Orbi 370 consists of a router paired with two satellites and retails at just $250 USD.

What to Expect

As the most affordable option from Netgear, the Orbi 370 does come with some compromises. It covers a smaller area than its predecessors, operates at lower speeds, supports dual-band connectivity, and is limited to 70 simultaneous devices. Nevertheless, for many users, this is likely more than sufficient, making this price point appealing to those who do not require the higher-end offerings.

Specifications and Usage

The Orbi 370 can cover up to 6,000 square feet, which is ample for typical residential settings. Users are encouraged to strategically place the satellites in different rooms to avoid dead zones caused by walls or other obstructions. If set up correctly, users can enjoy speeds of up to 5 Gbps, allowing for high-quality streaming.

While this mesh system supports only dual-band (as opposed to tri-band), it remains backward compatible with Wi-Fi standards, ensuring reliable connectivity for existing devices.

In contrast, more premium models, like the Amazon Eero Max 7, price at about $600 USD. If Netgear’s Orbi 370 matches expectations, it could redefine value in the mesh router market.
