Baldur’s Gate 3 has been hailed as one of the best RPGs of the decade, yet it won’t see a sequel from its developers, Larian Studios. The decision comes as Larian feels their creative impulses are better served by exploring new avenues rather than revisiting prior projects.
Neil Newbon, the voice of Astarion from the game, supports this decision. He stated in an interview with Radio Times Gaming’s “Arcade Hang” that he hopes to return to the character in some incarnation, whether it be for a future sequel or in a new format. He expressed enthusiasm for potentially reprising Astarion in live-action form, calling it an incredible opportunity.
Newbon explained, “I appreciate Larian stepping away because they recognized that continuing would not yield the same passion or quality as their prior works.” He believes this choice reflects their commitment to producing exceptional gaming experiences.
He also mentioned his eagerness for potential future installations of the franchise but emphasized that they should steer clear of merely remaking formulas. Newbon hopes future projects will involve the original team behind Baldur’s Gate, stating, “Getting back the writers would be a wise move.”
