Lightning Might Strike Again for PS Plus in August 2025

PlayStation Plus is on the brink of introducing another highly-rated game, continuing its streak of quality offerings.

PlayStation Plus is poised to welcome another critically-acclaimed addition shortly. Earlier this year, Shuhei Yoshida, the former head of PlayStation, praised Blue Prince, suggesting it could be a frontrunner for Game of the Year months before its release. Upon launch, Blue Prince garnered widespread acclaim, validating Yoshida’s enthusiasm.

Gamers subscribed to the Extra tier of PlayStation Plus can enjoy Blue Prince without any extra charges beyond their usual subscription fee. Following the successful launch and the expectations it built, Yoshida’s insights into future game releases hold significant weight.

Notably, another game that Yoshida has touted will soon be available to Extra tier subscribers, so those interested should note the upcoming date.

Back at the Summer Game Fest, Yoshida identified Sword of the Sea as his favorite game from the Play Days event. Although this praise doesn’t carry the same weight as identifying Blue Prince as a Game of the Year candidate, it underscores the title’s importance. Sword of the Sea will be available on August 19, offering subscribers a chance to see if it meets expectations.

For those unfamiliar, Sword of the Sea combines elements of Journey and Tony Hawk, allowing players to navigate a colorful world using a hoversword in both combat and exploration. Early gameplay visuals are promising, but only time will tell if it delivers.

With Sword of the Sea arriving on August 19, it will continue the three-month pattern that began with FBC: Firebreak in June, followed by Abiotic Factor in July. As of yet, it’s uncertain whether another day-one title will debut in September.
