In a dazzling twist in data storage methods, Benn Jordan, a musician and YouTuber, has demonstrated a novel technique of saving an image using a European starling. Known for their intricate vocal capabilities, these birds mimic various sounds they encounter, including digital audio. Jordan showcased this in a detailed video, explaining how he drew a picture and converted the sound into a format the bird could reproduce.
“This little bird successfully learned and emulated the sound in the exact same frequency range that he heard it, effectively transferring about 176 kilobytes of uncompressed information,” Jordan explained.
Jordan’s whimsical method opens intriguing possibilities for alternative data storage solutions, although practicality is certainly a pressing concern. With the advancements in technology, he noted, we now live in a world where files could theoretically be saved onto birds, adding a quirky twist to the concept of cloud storage.
