Even after nearly 18 years post-launch, Team Fortress 2 (TF2) continues to thrive on Steam. Recently, the game saw a notable rise in its sales rankings due to a July 24 update that introduced substantial community-developed content. The update added ten new maps, 23 new items, four new taunts, and 14 unique effects contributed by players. This boost allowed TF2 to briefly re-enter the top ten of Steam’s sales charts and maintain a position within the top 20.
Valve has seemingly dispelled concerns about the game’s decline, affirming that TF2 is still very much active. The update’s timing comes after a call for community submissions in June for a termed ‘much-needed update’ slated for August 27. Valve hinted at another significant update around Halloween, making this recent release a precursor to those future enhancements.
