The Hilarious Flaws of Firearms in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
Unwieldy, imprecise, and silly—I’d love them.
A Historical Focus on Firearms
When exploring the Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, players will encounter a focus on historically accurate elements, especially regarding the social structures, clothing, architecture, and weaponry of the medieval era. However, while the first installment avoided firearms, the sequel introduces them, albeit with caution due to their cumbersome nature.
“We are working on a video game,” states Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, global PR manager at Warhorse Studios. “Our primary goal is to create an intriguing and enjoyable video game, while ensuring authenticity. We meticulously check facts to make the gameplay experience plausible.”
The Struggles of Early Firearms
In the context of European warfare during the 15th century, firearms were generally awkward to use. Ondřej Bittner, senior game designer, explains, “Early firearms were typically ineffective for solitary knights, being used mainly in mass troop battles.”
Such weapons were slow to reload and highly inaccurate, often leading to comedic outcomes in gameplay. Bittner admits, “Using these guns is a bit ridiculous, and we were aware they would likely become meme-worthy.”
Experiencing the Hilarity
During gameplay, the protagonist’s witty remarks about their first encounters with these weapons further amplify the humor, especially when faced with failures in target shooting. Users find themselves chuckling as their characters miss targets and experience several blunders in execution.
“It’s just so impractical! The lengthy setup time results in a delayed response, making them unsuitable for quick engagements,” expresses Bittner, juxtaposing the serious historical elements with lightheartedness in gameplay.
The inclusion of firearms not only serves as a testament to historical authenticity but also embraces the comedic potential of their ineffectiveness, ensuring that players enjoy both the fun and the challenges they present in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
