Leaked SpongeBob Game Makes Surprising Platform Choice

A leaked SpongeBob SquarePants game is reportedly set to launch exclusively on the upcoming Switch 2, leaving many fans questioning the decision.

One leaked SpongeBob SquarePants game is apparently set to move away from the widely accepted Switch in favor of its successor, the Switch 2. This decision from THQ Nordic, the developer behind the soon-to-be-released SpongeBob SquarePants game, comes as a shock, especially considering that many Nintendo fans have yet to secure a Switch 2.

Last June, an age rating for an unannounced SpongeBob SquarePants game surfaced from ratings boards in Korea and Germany. The title was revealed as SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide, which is being developed by THQ Nordic for PCs and current-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles. This leak aligns with hints shared earlier about a new SpongeBob game due next year, along with recent reports that divulged further details about the game’s release date and pricing.

According to Dealabs, SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide is expected to release on November 18, 2025, for PC and consoles, including the newly successful Switch 2, while skipping previous Nintendo systems. Its price is set at approximately USD 39.99 across all platforms. A physical launch is also slated for the PS5 and Switch 2, with an official reveal from THQ Nordic anticipated within 15 days, potentially during an upcoming Nintendo Direct or the THQ Nordic Digital Showcase on August 1.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide to Skip the Original Switch

Despite the impressive sales of Switch 2 units, which began on June 5, finding one is still challenging for many, as Nintendo continues to grapple with stock shortages. This disparity may hinder numerous players from transitioning from the original Switch to its newly upgraded variant.

Although the new SpongeBob SquarePants game may significantly benefit from the advanced capabilities of Switch 2, it risks a substantial decline in sales by excluding users of the older Switch. However, as the launch approaches, there is hope that more potential buyers will have upgraded to the Switch 2 by then.
