Steam users have noticed the much-debated early-access title The Day Before appearing in the ‘Coming Soon’ section of the Steam store, leading to questions about its advertisement. The survival extraction shooter, notorious for its brief availability, was removed from the store just days after its early access launch on December 11, 2023.
Skepticism surrounding The Day Before had been prevalent since its announcement by developer Fntastic in January 2021. The game faced numerous setbacks, including unpaid labor allegations and a brief removal from Steam due to trademark disputes. Once the game was released on December 7, 2023, it wasn’t long before refunds started being issued as Steam delisted it again.
In a surprising turn, a Reddit user named Thadgarcy shared a screenshot showing The Day Before listed in the MMO category under ‘Coming Soon’. While this could hint at a revival effort by Fntastic, it’s more likely an error since the game is still searchable on Steam but not for sale.
Steam Store Lists The Day Before as ‘Coming Soon’
This isn’t the first time The Day Before has seemed poised for a return, with discussions on Steam forums dating back to November 2024 commenting on its sporadic appearances in wishlists. Given that servers for the game have been shut down, the reappearance for some users is likely just a glitch.
Despite the controversial reception surrounding the launch of The Day Before, Fntastic is moving forward with new projects. Their upcoming game titled ITEMS is being marketed as a prop hunt experience. This endeavor has already drawn criticisms for encouraging players to create maps, with rewards of free game copies rather than monetary compensation, reminiscent of previous complaints about unpaid labor during The Day Before’s development.
