Diablo 4 Set to Expand Its Reach Following License Approval in China
Diablo 4 has been approved for licensing in China, allowing it to reach a broader audience and enhancing its global footprint.
The game Diablo 4 has achieved a significant milestone by receiving license approval from the Chinese government, marking it as one of only seven foreign titles cleared for release in July 2025, alongside notable games like Marvel Mystic Mayhem.
First launched in June 2021, Diablo 4 blends gameplay elements from both Diablo 2 and 3, as players take on the role of heroes to combat Lilith, the Daughter of Hatred. This installation is also the first in the series to introduce an open-world format, enhancing player interactions by allowing them to meet and join forces with other heroes in the game. Furthermore, the game is set to receive ongoing events and updates, ensuring a dynamic gaming experience.
As reported by Wowhead, the licensing will enable Diablo 4 to reach numerous new players in China, leveraging Blizzard’s strong global presence and reputation. Approval of games in China is notoriously stringent — evidenced by the mere seven foreign titles granted in July 2025.
Besides Diablo 4, several of Blizzard’s established franchises like World of Warcraft and Hearthstone have enjoyed considerable success in China, boosting sales in the region. Additionally, Blizzard’s renewed alliance with NetEase in 2024 allows for the return of Diablo Immortal and World of Warcraft to the Chinese market after a prior conflict.
With substantial expansions and new content planned for the upcoming future, including six unique classes and the recently released expansion, Vessel of Hatred, Diablo 4 is positioned for significant growth, especially with collaborations such as PlayStation offering it as one of July 2025’s free games for PS Plus members.
Overall, the game continues to innovate and adapt, promising players plenty of new content and experiences.
