Dune: Awakening Suspends Steam Family Sharing Until Possibly Late 2025 Due to Abuse

Funcom has disabled Steam Family Sharing for Dune: Awakening amid frequent misuse, with plans to reinstate it as soon as possible.

Survival MMO Dune: Awakening launched strongly in June but has faced challenges lately. Changes made to the game haven’t stopped the Steam reviews from dropping to a ‘Mixed’ rating due to ongoing cheating and griefing issues.

Recently, the Steam Family Sharing feature was disabled. According to the publisher Funcom, this decision was made after encountering frequent abuse of the system. They announced, “We are actively working on changes that will allow us to re-enable the system as soon as possible.”

The publisher aims to restore the feature by the end of 2025 if all goes well. Funcom acknowledges the impact on legitimate users but stresses their commitment to addressing the cheating issues. While exact details of the exploits remain unspecified, discussions among players hint at various forms of misuse, including using alternate accounts for unfair advantages.

Despite the challenges, Funcom is actively banning exploiting players and maintaining ongoing investigations to root out cheating.
