NBN Providers Compete with Speed Upgrades Ahead of Major Rollout

Spintel joins Exetel in offering improved NBN plans ahead of significant upgrades coming in September.

Australia’s NBN is gearing up for extensive updates in 2025, rolling out fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) to more households. Starting September, plans currently classified as NBN 100 will automatically upgrade to NBN 500 for homes that use fibre.

This has triggered a competitive response among providers. Exetel recently announced an early upgrade on their NBN 100 plan to NBN 500 for AU$80 a month. As it turns out, this is a substantial value, especially for those who have been paying more for slower speeds.

In response, Spintel has also launched its own NBN 500 plan, priced at AU$74 for the first six months, after which it will increase to AU$84.95. Thus, users can opt for Spintel initially and later switch to Exetel for additional savings. It’s crucial to note, however, that speeds above 100 Mbps are not feasible on older fibre-to-the-node connections, so it’s recommended to verify your connection type on the NBN website.

Despite the price competition, providers like Telstra still charge AU$93 for a mere 25 Mbps, making it worth shopping around. For more speed and options, check out our guide to the best NBN plans for gamers.
