Multiversus Director Responds to Fan Rage Over Game's Upcoming Shutdown

Director Tony Huynh addresses the backlash following the announcement of Multiversus' closure, defending the development team against threats of harm.

Warner Bros. recently announced that the fifth season of Multiversus will mark the game’s conclusion, causing a stir among its community.

Director Tony Huynh acknowledged the significant disappointment in a public response, emphasizing that while expressing frustration is valid, any threats to the development team cross a red line. He stated, “You’re entitled to what you say and think, but when there are threats to harm, it’s crossing the line.”

In a statement shared on X, Huynh expressed his sorrow at the situation but gratitude for the collaboration with the Warner Bros. Games and Player First Games developers. He mentioned the creativity and passion of his team as the guiding force behind their work.

Despite the closure announcement, the game will remain available offline for players. The shutdown, though disappointing, illustrates the often harsh reality faced by gaming titles that struggle to maintain momentum after initial release phases, as seen when Multiversus returned from a lengthy open beta period.

Last week’s announcement was further complicated by rising tensions within the fan community, especially for users of the 100 Founders Pack—a premium offering that has left many feeling frustrated about unused in-game currency.

Huynh concluded with a heartfelt acknowledgment of the community’s passion and reiterated the importance of respectful dialogue, especially during these challenging times for game developers and the gaming community. ‘Nobody wanted this outcome, and it wasn’t from lack of caring or effort.’
