After 40 Years, Hellraiser is Set to Debut its Own Video Game: A Single Plea for Saber Interactive

Announcing the first-ever Hellraiser video game, fans hope for a thrilling experience combined with a touch of horror nostalgia.

Hellraiser’s twisted puzzle box has spawned a whopping 11 films, alongside numerous comics, with a TV show reportedly in the works. Yet, until now, video games have largely been absent—save for the memorable role of main antagonist Pinhead in Dead By Daylight.

Thanks to Saber Interactive, that void is about to be filled.

Saber has officially announced Hellraiser: Revival (or Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival for those who care about the exact wording)—a single-player survival horror experience featuring none other than the original Pinhead actor, Doug Bradley, returning to the role for the first time since 2005’s Hellraiser: Hellworld, where some kids fell victim to a terrible MMO.

The game presents a fresh yet familiar narrative, with protagonist Aidan striking a deal with Pinhead to harness the “dark powers of the Genesis Configuration” to rescue his girlfriend from Hell. Players will need to combat “Hell’s wretches, deviants, cultists, and its most infernal priests,” using the powers bestowed by the devious puzzle box alongside conventional weapons.

“Working on the first true Hellraiser game has been a venture deep into the recesses of my darkest imaginings,” says Clive Barker, who has had a complicated relationship with the series since selling the rights prior to the release of the first film.

As the series suffered creatively over the years, moving away from its original vision, Barker hopes that Saber’s project captures the essence of the original movie—a slow-burning, serious horror film that stands in stark contrast to the teen-focused slasher flicks of the ’80s.

While only the original Cenobites, such as Butterball, Chatterer, Deep Throat, and Pinhead, have been shown in early marketing materials, fans are eager to see a broader, even more bizarre array of characters. Perhaps a Cenobite who embodies the current absurdities of modern society, capturing the spirit of the strange times we live in.

Currently, the trailer showcases that Revival aims to stay loyal to the original film’s tone, albeit with a willingness to lean into the absurd art style that the series is known for.

The game’s Steam page is already live, though no release date has been set yet.
