Charlie Cox, the actor who voices Gustave in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, recently expressed his wish to try out the game. He revealed, “I need to get a console first,” since he hasn’t played a video game since Super Mario 64. Although Cox had previously stated he wasn’t a gamer, it surprised many to learn he had not engaged with the game in which he plays such an important role.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been making significant waves in the gaming community since its release in April 2025. The game features innovative RPG turn-based combat mechanics, engaging level designs, and an intriguing narrative. Developed by Sandfall over roughly five years, the project consisted of a small team of around 30 developers, complemented by the contributions of subcontractors and voice actors like Jennifer English, known for her work in Baldur’s Gate 3, and of course, Charlie Cox himself. Despite the game’s demand among RPG enthusiasts, Cox had yet to explore it, but it seems that his stance may be changing soon.
During a recent Q&A session, Cox candidly shared his excitement about the game’s graphics and how they have evolved since the days when he played Super Mario 64, admitting, “This is beautiful.” He acknowledged feeling somewhat like a fraud for not having played Clair Obscur yet, commending Sandfall for their work and expressing pride in the game’s acclaim, especially as it is in contention for Game of the Year.
