PlayStation has unexpectedly discontinued online services for Assetto Corsa on the PS4, raising concerns among its community regarding the game’s future across other platforms. Released initially in 2014 for PC, Assetto Corsa made its console debut on PS4 and Xbox One in 2016 and was later available on iOS.
Developed by Italian firm Kunos Simulazioni, Assetto Corsa features a racing simulation setup emphasizing realism. Despite sequels showcasing improved physics, Assetto Corsa has endured longer than expected due to its modest system requirements and dedicated fanbase.
Recent discussions on a PSNProfiles thread flagging the cessation of the online services for the PS4 version revealed user HuntingFever stating, “I’ve just been informed the Assetto Corsa (PS4) servers were closed/broke down somewhere between mid-May and early June of this year.” Several users corroborated this finding with comments such as “the servers are apparently gone” and “preset lobbies disappeared.”
Additionally, a warning on the game’s page in the Japanese PlayStation Store states that online services have concluded, indicating that the online engagement feature is no longer functional. The notice appears to be exclusive to the Japanese market, likely reflecting Japan’s strict consumer protection laws, which require developers to disclose service termination information promptly.
While the shut down on PS4 might hint at a potential wind down of online services for Xbox and PC platforms, players are notably anxious about receiving no prior warnings, contrasting with the common practices that typically provide advanced notice of such server shutdowns. However, Assetto Corsa retains offline playability on PS4, which remains available across other platforms. Players seeking to unlock all achievements connected to online services may face challenges, as several trophies require online functionalities.
The abrupt closure of the online services has sparked widespread discussion, with users reflecting on the increasing frequency of unexpected shut downs in the gaming industry.
