Victory for Australian Anti-Porn Group as Steam Implements New Content Censorship Rules

Collective Shout claims credit for Steam's stricter moderation policies targeting sexually explicit games.

Collective Shout, an Australian anti-pornography organization, has declared that it was responsible for Steam’s recent removal of numerous sexually explicit games and the enforcement of stricter guidelines for such content. They have publicly acknowledged their win against what they describe as ‘porn-sick brain-rotted pedo gamer fetishists’.

In a statement to PC Gamer, it was noted that Valve attributed the changes to pressure from payment processors, like credit card companies and PayPal. Collective Shout had previously launched a campaign targeting these processors to stimulate this pressure.

This campaign’s release coincided with a significant pushback from the gaming community. Reports indicated that two articles previously published by Waypoint on this topic were retracted without explanation, leading to speculation about media censorship.

Collective Shout was co-founded in 2009 by Melinda Tankard Reist, who identifies as a ‘pro-life feminist.’ The group positions itself as a grassroots movement against the objectification of women and sexualization of girls in media and culture.
