Recently, Starfield’s second DLC release appears to be pushed back past 2025. Launched in September 2023, Bethesda’s much-anticipated sci-fi RPG received mixed reviews, with its rating on Steam dropping to ‘Mixed’ as players became more familiar with it. This disappointment stemmed from the game’s reliance on procedural generation rather than the crafted locations fans had come to adore. Although Starfield aimed to achieve a higher standard akin to Bethesda’s other successful franchises like Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, it struggled to meet those expectations.
In September 2024, an attempt to regain player interest came with the release of the Shattered Space DLC, which, despite returning to more traditional design elements, failed to significantly increase the player count. This disappointing response raised concerns about the longevity of post-launch support for the game.
However, some buzz reignited when Jez Corden from Windows Central hinted during a podcast that the core teams at Bethesda are currently developing DLC for Starfield along with Elder Scrolls 6 and that Fallout 5 is on track for production.
Adding to the speculation, a well-known leaker known as NateTheHate confirmed on a forum that another DLC is on its way, although it’s unlikely to arrive in 2025. He suggested a potential release window of early 2026, indicating ongoing development has been in motion for some time.
The mixed reception of the Shattered Space DLC places high stakes on this upcoming expansion. If it fails to revive community interest, Bethesda may reconsider its future content plans. Fortunately, for fans of the game, the Starfield modding community continues to thrive, with activity outpacing that seen in Morrowind, ensuring the game’s endurance well beyond official support.
