Ubisoft Defends Microtransactions in Annual Report
Ubisoft's recent financial report claims that monetizing games with microtransactions enhances player enjoyment.
Ubisoft’s latest financial report defends the use of microtransactions in premium games, arguing that they enhance player enjoyment. The report states, “At Ubisoft, the golden rule when developing premium games is to allow players to enjoy the game fully without having to spend more. Our monetization offer within premium games makes the player experience more fun by allowing them to personalize their avatars or progress more quickly, however this is always optional.”
However, the document reveals a contradiction, as it acknowledges that many players find microtransactions troublesome in games that require an upfront purchase. Critiques surrounding the practicality of these policies remain significant, especially in the context of long-standing concerns over ‘pay-to-win’ scenarios. The report seeks to reassure players about the respect for their gaming experiences while promoting additional monetization post-launch.
