Skate Reboot Claimed to Be the 'Best Skate Experience Yet'

Jeff Seamster reveals the latest Skate game promises the best gameplay feel the series has ever had ahead of its Early Access release.

Full Circle’s head of creative, Jeff Seamster, has expressed that the forthcoming Skate reboot is the “best Skate has ever felt” during discussions about the upcoming game. Anticipation for the reboot is mounting as it prepares to enter Early Access soon.

The Skate series has not seen a new entry in over 15 years. While the franchise enjoys a dedicated fanbase, its prolonged absence had fans eagerly awaiting its return. However, the journey has been riddled with issues, leading to mixed feelings among some gamers. The announcement that the next Skate will adopt a live-service model has caused frustration among certain fans, coinciding with concerns regarding a new, cartoon-like visual style.

Despite the apprehensions, Seamster remains confident about the reboot. Speaking to GamesRadar+, he asserted, “coming back to this series [for this reboot], we needed to ensure it felt like Skate, which was everything.” He emphasized that the core of the franchise lies in the authenticity of the gameplay experience. Seamster assures that the developers are keen on making this reboot meet and exceed fans’ expectations.

He stated, “When we started, we reached a stage where we had fully restored the entire Skate 3 engine and integrated it into the present Frostbite engine. Achieving that authentic feel was crucial, and we succeeded. I am confident this is the best Skate has ever felt and played. We’re thrilled for players to experience it.”

As the beloved Skate series returns, expectations are naturally high, but such ambitions come with the risk of disappointment. The recent news about the reboot being an online-only experience has already led to some fans feeling disheartened. Let’s hope the essence of gameplay remains intact at its core.
