New Pokémon Card Game 'Taruka' Set for Release

Pokémon is launching 'Taruka', a variant of a classic Japanese card game, promising a unique gameplay format strictly focused on physical cards.

Pokémon is set to unveil a new card game dubbed Taruka, inspired by the traditional Japanese card game Karuta. This game will allow fans of the Pokémon franchise to engage with a unique competitive format, distinct from the established Pokémon Trading Card Game.

Taruka is designed as a physical card game and emphasizes an interactive experience among players. The game’s mechanics require participants to identify cards from a reading deck against a displayed set of standard cards. The player quick enough to grab the right card wins the round.

The release is scheduled for July 19, 2025, and will primarily cater to fans in Japan, as the cards will be entirely in Japanese. Consequently, English-speaking players might need to seek translated versions to enjoy it outside Japan.
