Captivated by Uncle Bot: The Humanoid Robot Taking Social Media by Storm

A newly popular humanoid robot known as Uncle Bot is captivating audiences on social media by showcasing its surprisingly human-like characteristics.

It seems all we needed was a simple outfit to accept robots like Uncle Bot as part of our society. A humanoid robot, dressed in casual clothing, has gone viral on the Chinese social media platform Douyin, capturing hearts as it runs down hills, interacts with fans, and takes walks with its pet robot dog.

Twitter user Dott. Orikon has been sharing clips of Uncle Bot’s escapades, from exploring office spaces to posing for photos with admirers. Priced around $16,000, Uncle Bot is likely based on the Unitree G1 model.

Despite the robot’s newfound fame, its ability to engage in typical human activities remains limited. Videos depict Uncle Bot enjoying leisurely walks and taking in the sights of its surroundings, but it is still unable to participate in activities like basketball with friends.

As Uncle Bot garners more attention, questions linger about its purpose—whether as an advertisement for the manufacturer or simply a novelty item for amusement.

With a battery life that lasts around two hours, Uncle Bot is frequently seen accompanying its human caretakers, showcasing impressive humanoid movements thanks to advanced technology like 3D LIDAR sensors and multi-jointed limbs.

Uncle Bot’s charm lies in its relatable appearance, leading many to anthropomorphize it, illustrating how a touch of personality and human-like clothing can make robots feel more approachable.
