Final Fantasy 14 Alerts Players About Windows 10 Support Ending in 2025

As Microsoft prepares to stop supporting Windows 10, Final Fantasy 14 reminds players of the impending upgrade necessity.

Square Enix has issued a notice that may seem minor now, but will have significant implications as October approaches, particularly for those still using Windows 10.

“Final Fantasy 14 support for Windows 10 will end on October 14, 2025,” noted an official blog post. “Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or support for PCs running Windows 10 after October 14, 2025, making ongoing support for this OS a difficult endeavor.”

Players won’t find their PCs shutting down automatically if they don’t upgrade to Windows 11 by the specified date. However, remaining on Windows 10 can expose them to security threats and malware, which is why many applications and games will eventually require users to transition to Windows 11. Square Enix wants to ensure that players are aware of these changes well ahead of time.

Although players may technically still be able to operate Final Fantasy 14 on Windows 10 post-support, Square Enix warns that they will no longer offer assistance for any issues caused by this operating system after the support has ended. They might still provide help on a case-by-case basis, but formal support will cease.

With the deadline fast approaching, a considerable number of players have yet to make the leap to the latest Windows version. A recent survey indicated that about 35% of gamers were still using Windows 10. Interestingly, some users remain unable to upgrade, such as those with older graphics cards that do not support Windows 11.

To extend their use of Windows 10, Microsoft has updated its Extended Security Updates program, allowing users to receive another year of updates for a fee of $30. However, eventually, users will need to make the transition.
