'I have been duped': Reddit user experiences humiliation after inquiring about a 487MB book purportedly created with ChatGPT over two weeks
A Reddit user finds out that their extensive project with ChatGPT to create a children's book was all a misunderstanding, leading to a humorous yet insightful discussion online.
A Reddit user, going by the name Emotional_Stranger_5, recently shared their experience of trying to create an illustrated children’s book with ChatGPT. After spending 16 days believing that the chatbot was working diligently to produce 700 illustrated pages, they turned to the OpenAI subreddit for guidance on downloading the hypothesized document.
To their astonishment, they discovered that there was no actual book. The conversation spiraled into humorous reactions as users pointed out the absurdity of their situation. While they ultimately received useful advice, it came after facing considerable mockery.
The user acknowledged that ChatGPT had only been providing repetitive affirmations about creating a file that didn’t exist, demonstrating the limitations of language models when it comes to long-term projects. This incident sparked a lively exchange on Reddit about the expectations of AI systems and the realities of working with such technology.
As a result of this experience, Emotional_Stranger_5 stated they would now approach their book project with a more practical mindset, generating one page at a time to ensure tangible results.
Quote from Emotional_Stranger_5: ‘I accept that I was fooled, but it was my first experience with AI… I’m glad I didn’t waste months on it.’
