Mercedes Intros Controversial Feature to Stream Driving During Teams Meetings

Mercedes' new in-car Teams functionality allows drivers to broadcast live video while driving, raising safety concerns.

In a bold move, Mercedes announced an update to its Teams functionality which now allows drivers to stream themselves in real-time while driving their vehicles. This feature may provide a unique way to showcase productivity during meetings but raises important safety concerns.

“With this update, drivers can use the in-car camera while driving, allowing other participants to see them during a meeting.”

This innovative feature does have safety measures; when the vehicle is in motion, the screen from other Teams users will be disabled, allowing audio only.

Mercedes maintains that the driver won’t see others in the meeting, focusing on minimizing distractions while they drive. However, this feature opens doors to unforeseen scenarios, such as unintended livestreams and potential accidents during calls.

Additionally, the update includes Microsoft 365 Copilot integration to enhance drivers’ productivity without diverting their attention from the road.
