Despite having invested nearly 1,500 hours into Diablo 4, Rod Fergusson, the head of the game’s development, finds himself lacking one achievement. The specific achievement that eludes him remains unclear, but it underscores his commitment both as a player and a developer.
Fergusson, who has worked at notable companies like Microsoft and Epic Games, joined Blizzard in 2020 specifically to contribute to the Diablo series. Before this, he was instrumental in developing celebrated titles such as Counter-Strike, Gears of War, and Bioshock Infinite.
Recently, he shared a recap of his playtime on Twitter, revealing he had logged 60 days, 20 hours, and 26 minutes in the game, which calculates to over 1,460 hours. With the forthcoming Season 9 of Diablo 4, he anticipates surpassing 1,500 hours of gameplay. Fans were quick to note that despite this significant investment of time, he still lacks one of the 35 achievements available, impacting his Gamerscore.
There have been numerous theories regarding the missing achievement, with players speculating whether it could be the Devout Champion achievement—requiring players to reach Paragon level 300—or the Fearless Combatant achievement, which necessitates eliminating ten players in Hardcore mode.
While Fergusson’s game time is impressive, comments from fans highlight that at least two players have exceeded his logged hours, boasting over 3,300 hours each. Taking into account his professional engagement with Diablo 4 for the past five years, it’s conceivable that Fergusson might be among the most dedicated players of all time.
Currently, Diablo 4 is facing issues related to the July 15 update, prompting Blizzard to revert the servers to the previous Season 9 configuration; fortunately, this affects only PC players, sparing console users like Fergusson from these complications.
