GTA 4's Renowned Lighting Mod Receives First Major Update in Over a Decade, Revamping Liberty City

The highly anticipated update for the iCEnhancer mod for Grand Theft Auto 4 has finally arrived, marking a significant improvement in visual quality.

One of the most well-known mods for Grand Theft Auto 4, iCEnhancer, has just had its first significant update in nearly 11 years. This new version, known as iCEnhancer 4.0, introduces advanced physics-based lighting alongside increased compatibility with other GTA 4 mods, which has been a considerable task for the modding community.

The initial unveiling of this lighting mod occurred in 2011, but Keilany had pulled back from modding in 2014 due to prolonged negative feedback leading up to the release of iCEnhancer 3, as well as a considerable investment of time into debugging. Keilany has communicated on their Discord that there will likely be a delay before the next update, iCEnhancer 4.1, due to recent challenges and extensive testing processes.

This extensive update, credited to contributions from fellow modder Krystaling and ENB creator Boris Vorontsov, includes numerous enhancements such as:

  • New shaders for fog and water rendering
  • Shaders optimized to be twice as fast as previous versions
  • Dynamic lighting changes influenced by fog and clouds
  • Improved sky colors and glass textures
  • Compatibility fixes addressing recent Windows 11 updates

For users eager to experience the latest enhancements, it’s essential to first install ENB’s July 2025 release and ensure you are operating on GTA 4 patch 1.0.4.0. A GTA 4 downgrader is available for those looking to align their installation with the optimal setup for using iCEnhancer.
