Disappointment Among Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War Fans Over Intro Cinematic Changes
Fans express outrage over the removal of the iconic 'Space Marine scream' from the remastered intro of the beloved strategy game.
Gamers are upset with a recent change made by Relic Entertainment regarding the introduction cinematic of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition. The beloved ‘Space Marine scream’ has been removed, much to the dismay of the fan base awaiting this remaster. This iconic sound has become a meme within the community over the years.
The Dawn of War is a real-time strategy game that debuted in 2004, having sold over seven million copies when factoring in its expansions and sequels. Its success has led to its recognition as one of the top Warhammer games of the early 2000s.
Fans were initially thrilled when the remaster was announced but their excitement soured upon the release of the updated intro. Although advancements were made in quality, it notably lacks the historical scream, prompting a backlash. This alteration left players feeling disappointed, with some describing the change as a ‘crime against humanity,’ expressing their frustration on various platforms.
Fortunately, there’s a glimmer of hope. According to IGN, the developers indicated that the scream was omitted due to its inferior audio quality. They hinted at the possibility of reinstating it before the game’s release on August 14, which could alleviate some fan concerns.
The Definitive Edition release is part of Relic Entertainment’s strategy to focus on smaller titles and revivals after parting ways with Sega in 2024.
